Formations
In addition to a limited number of paintings and small sculptures I have always created paintings interpreted from different perspectives with the theme “a landscape is only a reminiscence of one's usual expectations or experiences”. Manufactured the traditional way, oil paint on canvas or on panel.
From 1971 up to 1973 in addition to the usual paintings, I have created series of three-dimensional objects on panel. Back then a number of these have been exhibited. In the following years I have continued collecting various materials. The idea of using the materials at some point in my works of art kept on fascinating me and since 2017 I have started to put this into practice.
The starting point was the idea to omit the usual flat surface and create 3D organized compositions. This has resulted in series of artworks and objects called “Formations”.
Both the artworks and the objects are compositions structured partly conclusive and partly constructivist, in which layout, texture and composition of different materials are essential. The artworks consist of a paper background. Most of the objects have a white surface and structure and are exhibited behind glass and within a white frame. Both the artworks and the objects are medium in size.
